Picture
Natural Floors is an Australian owned natural flooring business with offices in Melbourne and Adelaide.
We supply wall-to-wall and rugs made from sisal, jute, coir, seagrass, hemp and abaca.
We have over 25 years experience in sourcing and laying stunning natural flooring
solutions to interior designers, architects and individual customers.

We work with private clients, interior designers/decorators and
architects in VIC as well as in SA, ACT and NSW. So wherever you
are located we would be more than happy to assist.

We have some of the best natural flooring specialist layers who attend
to every need when it comes to wall-to-wall installations.

We have a full range of Sisal, Coir, Seagrass, Hemp and Jute products as well as are
distributors of the Abaca range of products made from banana hemp from the Philippines.

Sisal

Sisal is tough and is known for producing the best quality rope. The product is invariably dyed, as its natural colour is a pale straw.  Different basic weaves include Panama – Basket Weave, Herringbone – Broken Twill or Ribbed – Boucle and these in turn each have many variations. The product is versatile and suits many interiors and furniture from antique, 1930’s through to contemporary décor. The perception is that it is hard underfoot but the new “tiger-eyes” weave is as soft as some of the alternative materials.  Sisal provides excellent noise attenuation and insulation in modern houses and will withstand underfloor heating used in low energy houses.

Seagrass

Natural Floors has both seagrass squares and matting. Seagrass has a ‘waxy coat’ and although allowing water molecules to enter, dyes and other stains have difficultly penetrating hence it is durable and shrugs off stains. As it is not able to be dyed it relies on the fibres natural colouring including beiges, greens and browns. The rustic nature suits farms and beach houses. It is often used in tenanted houses where a tough alternative to plastic carpets is required. Seagrass is versatile and can be used in domestic to light commercial sites. Perhaps often overlooked as one of the more practical alternatives – it is definitely worth considering. Seagrass requires a flooding of sea water during the crop cycle, hence the name.

Jute

Jute, also known as hessian, has been extensively used over hundreds of years for string, grain bags and wool packs. Jute has a new home in floor coverings and other uses. It is one of the softer natural products suited to bedrooms and other low traffic areas.  Energy use is minimal and more importantly, the product locks up carbon for its life as a floor covering. No glues, dyes, oil or commercial factories are required for this product. Along with coir, seagrass and sisal it is one of the few truly green natural floor coverings available today.

Coir

Coir is made from the husks of coconut and has been used for centuries to make ropes, sacks and floor coverings.
Coir floor coverings make excellent surfaces, as they are non-skid, anti-static, hardwearing and excellent for noise attenuation.

Abaca

Abaca is an exclusive range of products now on offer from Natural Floors Melbourne.  Abaca fiber, indigenous to the Philippines and obtained from the abaca tree, is also called Manila hemp plant (it is part of the banana family) and is considered the strongest of natural fibres. Traditionally used for craft material and cordage because of its strength and great resistance to salt water decomposition, it is more widely used now in specialty paper manufacturers such as currency notes and pulp.

We are the suppliers of specialist Abaca hand woven  rugs and carpet.

We have a wide product range to choose from starting from thick woven area rugs for light to medium traffic area to flat woven wall to wall carpeting for heavy traffic areas.

The products are custom made rugs for both residential, commercial and hospitality needs. There are five main varieties of natural colors to choose from (Cremeria, Honey, Coffee, Bark, Black/Dark)  and we can organise for the supplier to dye any color you want for dyed color rug requirement.

We can do a maximum of 7 metres wide x 24 metres long flat woven rug as roll order.  The range is a lot more expensive than the sisal, coir, seagrass and hemp range on offer from Natural Floors Melbourne due to the nature and exclusivity of the Abaca product and hand woven processes involved in developing the product ion the Philippines.

The leadtime for Abaca rugs is 8-10 weeks from deposit (50%) as they are hand woven in the Philippines and shipped to Australia.
